WHAT’S ON | Going Out

Evita Bezuidenhout is now 91, always 10 years older than her imposter. She has been in the public domain since April 1981 when she caught the public’s ear and eye at the Market Theatre in Pieter-Dirk Uys’ satirical Adapt or Dye one-man show. She became the South African ambassador in the independent homeland, Republic of Bapetikosweti.

During 1981-1994 she experienced the dramas of the National Party’s chalk becoming the ANC’s cheese. Today, as a member of the ANC, she is still cooking for reconciliation in the kitchen of Luthuli House. Tannie Evita has been invited to attend the 50th anniversary year of the Market Theatre. Although she keeps her opinions carefully to herself, some things just can’t be restrained.

Evita @ 91 will prove once again that we must remember where we come from so that we can celebrate where we are going. As she says: “We don’t need a crystal ball to see what will happen to South Africa. The future of our country is certain; it’s just the past that is unpredictable! Amandla/Vrystaat!” Tickets are available from R150 via Webtickets.

Pan Afrikan Design Week explores one of the most pressing questions in the world of design today: How do we build trust, tell our stories, cultivate future-fit skills and design the systems and solutions that truly help people, communities, cities and nature across Afrika to thrive? The hybrid Pan-Afrikan gathering brings together designers, innovators, entrepreneurs, educators, students, young people, thought leaders, policymakers, business leaders, cultural practitioners, changemakers and future-builders from across Afrika and the diaspora. Hosted by the Pan Afrikan Design Institute, this is not a conventional design conference. It is a space for people across sectors who think differently, connect meaningfully and contribute to a more thriving future. Tickets are available from R250 via Quicket.

WHERE: The Homecoming Centre, 15 Buitenkant St, District Six, Cape Town

Featuring special guests, jokes and analysis, this show is for anyone who cares about South Africa’s future and where this year’s election will take us. Tickets are available from R250 via Quicket.

Rosebank Mall’s annual 5km Pink Run returns on Saturday. After attracting 3,100 participants last year and raising R66,000 for The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), the mall is aiming even higher in 2026: 3,500 participants and R100‚000 for this year’s beneficiary, breast health organisation I Love Boobies. Adults can enter for R100 and children for R80, with a portion of every ticket sold going to I Love Boobies. The Pink Run aims to raise awareness of breast cancer and to recognise the many people and families whose lives have been touched by the illness. Tickets are available via Rosebank Mall’s website : https://www.rosebankmall.co.za/event/rosebank-malls-5km-pink-run

Join Gagasi Bodyboarding Club to take part in their CANSA Breast Cancer Awareness and Water Safety aquatic event.
