WATCH: Helen Zille uses BMW spinning stunt to promote DA’s Joburg election message

DA Johannesburg mayoral candidate Helen Zille has appeared in a car-spinning campaign video, using the stunt to promote her party’s service-delivery message ahead of the 4 November local government elections.

In the newly released campaign video, the veteran politician is seen wearing a bucket hat and glasses, taking the driver's seat of a modified, navy-blue BMW as it performs tight donuts and high-speed maneuvers on a paved arena floor, engulfing the vehicle in heavy tire smoke.

Accompanying the video, Zille addressed rumours surrounding the stunt on social media:

"Yes, the rumours are true. I spun over the weekend. And on November 4 I’m spinning Joburg in a new direction! Vote DA on BOTH BALLOTS to get this city working for all!"

At the end of the footage, Zille leans out of the driver's side window and delivers a direct message to voters: "Other parties will spin you stories. We'll spin into action."

The video concludes with the DA's campaign slogan, "Believe in Joburg."

The stunt marks the latest in a series of headline-grabbing, hands-on campaign engagements by Zille leading up to the upcoming local government elections.

As part of her bid to lead South Africa’s largest metro, Zille’s campaign trail has prominently featured symbolic actions aimed at highlighting the city's infrastructure challenges, including directing traffic at broken intersections and inspecting municipal potholes.

With weeks remaining before voters head to the polls, the party is campaigning heavily on service delivery, seeking to capitalize on widespread public frustration over city infrastructure and municipal governance in Johannesburg.
