Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson is currently releasing the findings of four investigations into fatal building and construction collapses that claimed 17 lives and injured 24 people across South Africa.

The investigations, conducted by the Council for the Built Environment (CBE), examined incidents at Redcliffe in Verulam, Durban; Doornkop in Soweto; Ormonde in Johannesburg; and the Magnolia Development in Sea Point, Cape Town.

Macpherson is being joined by CBE chairperson Amelia Mtshali and chief executive officer Dr Msizi Myeza, who are outlining the findings and recommendations arising from the investigations.

The briefing is expected to provide answers on the causes of the collapses, whether building regulations and professional standards were breached, and what action may be taken against those found responsible.

The four incidents sparked widespread concern over construction safety and regulatory oversight, with the investigations tasked with determining accountability and identifying measures needed to prevent similar tragedies in future.
