Gcaleka urges churches to help combat corruption

Public Protector Kholeka Gcaleka is calling on faith-based organisations to help root out corruption by reporting suspicious financial contributions offered to them as donations.

Gcaleka was speaking at the Saint Paul African Apostolic Church’s Annual Feast in Moletsane, Soweto.

The annual feast brings together congregants from across South Africa and neighbouring countries for a day of prayer, thanksgiving and fellowship.

Gcaleka says it is vital for faith-based organisations to assist government in the fight against corruption.

“We really need the assistance of the church to identify illicit financial flows .

It is money that is untraceable, and we do know that some of that money people bring it to the church.

So, that is the stance that the church needs to take.

The same way the church took the stance to give refuge to those who were being beaten up by the police of apartheid and so forth.” WATCH | Public Protector Kholeka Gcaleka says there’s a need to enforce culture in the country.
