What funeral Tete will be accorded to be decided later: Mabuyane

Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane says a decision will be taken later on what kind of a funeral the slain former two-time world boxing champion Zolani Tete will be accorded.

Mabuyane visited Tete’s family at their home in Mdantsane, where he paid his respects.

Tete was gunned down in front of his home on Friday evening.

His female passenger was shot and injured.

A 22-year-old man has appeared before the Mdantsane Magistrate’s Cou rt in connection with the murder and attempted murder.

Mabuyane says it’s the President’s discretion to grant state funerals.

“That’s a tricky one, because here you have got so many champions.

So, what determines that is the profile when that profile is being looked at and the unfortunate part is also the competence of the President.

No one else.

We might have made the submission to President with that, but it’s something that we know it’s sensitive.

We can’t speak about it until the President decides.” Meanwhile, Eastern Cape Police Provincial Commissioner Vuyisile Ncata says they have not ruled out the possibility of more people being arrested in this case.

“We cannot rule out more arrests because I know that none of them are the manufacturers of the firearms and those firearms must have belonged to people.

It’s either those who were selling firearms or the owners of the firearms, all those things are part of our investigation.

But for now, those arrested are going to court, we know that we have managed and I can only thank God for having had a 72-hour meeting activation plan that we executed and also got the results without any waste of time.” Video: Suspect in Zolani Tete murder in court, community seeks justice
