ANCYL calls for justice following Katlehong multiple murder incident
The ANC Youth League says it will mobilise members to protest outside court when the suspect in the Katlehong multiple murder incident makes his first appearance.
The suspect will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
He handed himself over to the police following a shooting that claimed the lives of four people and injured three others.
The victims are believed to be members of the ANC Youth League who were shot at while coming from a memorial service.
Ekurhuleni ANC Youth League Chairperson Simphiwe Patose says, “We will be going to the police station right now as the ANC Youth League to check on what the status of the docket is and when he is going to appear in court, so that we can then be able to mobilise members of the ANC Youth League to go and demonstrate to that court to say such people are not supposed to be part of our communities.
Because there is nothing that was done to him for him to start shooting randomly at those young people who were part of the march coming from the memorial service there.” Patose says such people should be removed from society.
“So, if we cannot rise up against this situation, it will continue, because we have received the reports that in his car there were a number of guns, which shows that this person is not someone who should be part of our society,” he adds.
Deputy Police Minister Polly Boshielo has confirmed that last night’s shooting incident has been escalated to the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).
Boshielo says the PKTT will establish whether the attack was politically motivated.
Three other victims remain in hospital.
