How Scheffler broke another Tiger record to cap off dominant FedExCup season

Scottie Scheffler completed another dominant PGA Tour season with Tour Championship victory and a second FedExCup title; Scheffler has now won 22 times on the PGA Tour since the start of 2022 and overtaken Tiger Woods on the PGA Tour career money list

It has taken less than five seasons for Scottie Scheffler to go from being winless on the PGA Tour to breaking Tiger Woods' 26-year-old career money record.

While financial earnings between the two are difficult to compare, given the enormous spikes in prize money since Woods' prime era, it highlights just how dominant Scheffler has been on the PGA Tour to overtake the record so quickly.

Woods' total on the official PGA Tour career money list remains at $120,999,166, having last featured competitively in 2024, while Scheffler broke through the $130m barrier with his impressive Tour Championship victory at East Lake.

A three-shot win over Viktor Hovland saw Scheffler join Woods and Rory McIlroy as the only players with multiple FedExCup titles, with his latest success a third PGA Tour victory of another impressive campaign.

"To come from behind and be able to win the tournament is a really cool feeling," Scheffler said. "There was a lot of talented guys in front of me on the leaderboard. I was fortunate to get off to a good start and put myself in the mix."

Scheffler's Tour Championship triumph means he bookends his season with victories, having started his campaign by claiming The American Express before having a seven-month wait to next find the winner's circle.

He ended inside the top four 10 times during that frustrating winless period, with a runner-up finish to Rory McIlroy at The Masters among five seconds, although still entered the FedExCup Playoffs as No 1 for a fifth consecutive season.

Scheffler responded with a dominant eight-shot win at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the opening FedExCup Playoff event, while his victory at East Lake sees him become just the 31st player to reach 22 career wins on the PGA Tour.

"I felt like my thought process going into (the FedExCup Playoffs) was that maybe I've underperformed in some of the post-seasons in the past," Scheffler said. "I think of 2022 and 2023, where I had a lead at this tournament and wasn't able to win the FedExCup or a Playoff event.

"I came in this year maybe not winning the tournaments that I could have won throughout the regular season, so to come in and win two out of three Playoff events is definitely a nice way to finish off the season."

It marks the fifth year in a row that Scheffler has won multiple PGA Tour titles, equalling Woods' career-best streak, while he becomes the first player since Dustin Johnson from 2016-18 to claim three or more victories in three consecutive seasons.
