MP seeks budgetary support for 13 JNVs, two AIIMS in Andhra Pradesh

Rajya Sabha member Lingamaneni Ramesh has urged Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to provide budgetary support for establishing 13 new Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) and two additional AIIMS in Andhra Pradesh.

In a representation to the Finance Minister on Tuesday, Mr. Ramesh said the State had 28 districts, but JNVs were available in only 15, leaving 13 districts uncovered. He said extending residential school network to all the districts would benefit talented students, particularly from the rural and economically disadvantaged sections, access to quality education.

Mr. Ramesh pointed out that the Union Cabinet had approved 28 new JNVs in uncovered districts across the country in December 2024, with an estimated expenditure of ₹2,359.82 crore over five years. He estimated that ₹1,096 crore would be required over five years to establish 13 JNVs in Andhra Pradesh.

He sought in-principle approval and multi-year budgetary allocations, besides consultations with the State government and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti for identifying locations and land.

Mr. Ramesh also sought budgetary support for two new AIIMS, noting that AIIMS-Mangalagiri was established as per the promise made in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.

The AIIMS, he said, would improve access to tertiary and super-speciality care in North Coastal Andhra, Rayalaseema and other underserved areas, while expanding medical education, specialist training and research. He sought initial funds for feasibility studies and DPRs, followed by capital support.
