Sub-inspector of police Srikanth of Gambhiraopet police station in Rajanna Sircilla district was attached to the Armed Reserve (AR) headquarters on Thursday (October 15) following allegations by two reporters of Telugu publications that they had been subjected to assault while in police custody, sources said.

The allegations relate to a case recently registered at Gambhiraopet police station. Senior police officials reportedly ordered a departmental inquiry into the matter.

Meanwhile, Telangana Rakshana Sena Karimnagar district president G. Hariprasad and others visited the two journalists, who were reportedly injured, at a hospital in Karimnagar on Thursday.

In a statement, Mr. Hariprasad condemned the alleged incident and called for strict action against those found responsible, stating that intimidation or the use of force against journalists would undermine press freedom.
