Madras, October 15: Madras and several parts of Tamil Nadu to-day recorded heavy rain marking the onset of the North East Monsoon over the State right on time.

A deep depression has formed in the Bay of Bengal and the Meteorological authorities have forecast widespread rain for the next two days.

According to a special weather bulletin issued to-night, the deep depression lay centered about 700 km, south-east of Madras at 5:30 p.m. to-day. It is likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm and move in a west-north-westerly direction.

Widespread rain with scattered heavy to very heavy fall is likely to occur along and off the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu during the next 48 hours. Widespread and isolated heavy rain is also likely in the remaining parts of Tamil Nadu. Squally weather, wind speed exceeding 65 km. per hour is likely along and off Tamil Nadu coast during the same period.

Local cautionary signal No. III has been hoisted in all Tamil Nadu ports. Madras and neighbourhood areas will experience intermittent rain showers which will be at times heavy, accompanied by gusty winds.
