Members of the Karnataka Legislature Committee on Public Undertakings on Wednesday visited the Yettinahole project sites in Sakleshpur taluk of Hassan district and reviewed the progress of the work. They visited the pumping station and interacted with officials.

Briefing the media, former Minister and committee member M.C. Sudhakar said the committee chose to visit the project sites and review the progress following certain objections raised by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India. The committee would study the project and its progress before submitting a detailed report, he said.

Mr. Sudhakar said the project had been delayed at various levels owing to forest-related issues. The estimated cost of the project had also gone up from ₹8,300 crore to ₹23,000 crore over the years.

The project requires 24.01 tmcft of water from the west-flowing streams of the Western Ghats. It includes a drinking water component of 14.056 tmcft and a tank-filling component of 9.953 tmcft. “There is enough water to meet drinking water needs. Canal works are under way in parts of Tumakuru and Chikkaballapur districts. The project is in its final stages, and people will benefit from it,” he said.

Members of the committee Ivan D’Souza, D.G. Shantana Gowda, Kishor Kumar Puttur, Samarth Shamanur and others were present.
