The hearing of former Tata Trusts trustee Mehil Mistry’s matter at the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner’s office was postponed to November 5, 2026.

Mr. Mistry, a close confidant of the late Ratan Tata, stepped down as a trustee from three trusts last October after other trustees voted against his reappointment. Today he serves as a trustee in only one of the trusts that is Tata Education & Development Trust.

Soon after he had filed a complaint that there was a violation of the composition of the Bai Hirabai Trust, whose trust deed explicitly states that its trustees must be of the Parsi Zoroastrian faith and residents of Mumbai or Navsari region.

He has stated that two trustees, Vijay Singh and Venu Srinivasan, were appointed in violation of the trust deed.

On Thursday Bai Hirabai Trust filed an application naming Noel Tata as reporting trustee for the complaints.

In response, Mr. Mistry’s lawyer said the application should be accompanied by an affidavit from Tata, which states that he is qualified to be a trustee of Bai Hirabai Trust.

Mr. Mistry has sought directions from the Charity Commissioner in the matter.
