10 players who will define Calgary Flames' 2026-27 season: Matt Coronato

None of those totals seem unrealistic and if Coronato could achieve them it would definitely help a Flames team that has struggled to light the lamp the last few seasons and is light on high-end offensive talent.
From the NHL’s March 6 trade deadline until the end of the regular season, Coronato found another gear. Playing mostly with Gridin and Frost, he scored four goals and added 11 assists in his final 20 games of the season .
Nobody on the Flames roster had more than the 15 points he put up in that stretch.
It was a pace that everyone would love to see Coronato repeat through the full 84 games of 2026-27. The right winger did lead the Flames in scoring and deserves credit for that, but the fact that the team’s leading scorer finished the season with 45 points wasn’t exactly ideal.
The Flames know they don’t have a 100-point guy on their team right now and need everyone to contribute a little bit more. Coronato has to be right at the top of the list of guys you’d expect to do that.
The final 20 games pointed to a chemistry with Frost and Gridin that should legitimately have Flames fans excited heading into the new season. Small sample size or not, the line worked.
Gridin still is only 20 years old, Frost seemed to thrive with the responsibilities he was handed after Nazem Kadri was traded and Coronato should be entering his prime years — again, he’s still only 23.
If that trio can click again and carry their chemistry through 84 games, it should provide an offensive spark many people believe the Flames will be missing.
