Selma Blair speaks out after dramatic airport arrest and plane assault allegations: ‘Much more to this story’

Actress Selma Blair has broken her silence after an alleged mid-air meltdown aboard a flight to New York that ended with her arrest and assault charges.

The 54-year-old is accused of punching and biting flight attendants on a Delta flight bound for JFK Airport and attempting to open an aircraft door during the incident on Sunday.

Blair has pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault relating to allegations she later kicked a police officer and a hospital nurse after the plane landed.

In a statement to People, Blair’s spokesman said the public narrative surrounding the incident had been shaped almost entirely by police accounts.

“Since Sunday night, the public account of what happened to Selma aboard a flight to New York has been built almost entirely on a police statement and a decade-old headline,” the spokesman said.

The spokesman disputed several reports circulating about the incident, saying Blair suffered a medical emergency during the flight.

“There was no attempt to open the door of the aircraft. Selma did not intend to harm anyone.”

The statement also pushed back against questions surrounding Blair’s health, describing suggestions she does not have multiple sclerosis as “outrageous”.

The representative said Blair also lives with pseudobulbar affect, a neurological condition linked to multiple sclerosis, and that she regularly travels with a service dog.

Concluding the statement, the spokesman said Blair had never previously been arrested and urged the public not to rush to judgment.

“There is much more to this story than has been reported, and we ask people to consider the entirety of the facts before rushing to judgment, whether in the courtroom or in the court of public opinion.”

Blair’s legal team has argued the actress was experiencing a medical episode before the confrontation.

Defence lawyer Shawn Barnes told a New York court that Blair had missed several doses of medication used to manage neurological symptoms associated with multiple sclerosis.
