Nissan Patrol Warrior could return for new Y63 generation

Nissan Patrol Warrior could return for new Y63 generation

Nissan Australia says it's “actively studying” a Warrior version of the new-generation Y63 Patrol , which could eventually join the new Pro-4X off-roader in the significantly expanded lineup.

Local order books have opened for the Y63, with Australia the first right-hand-drive market to offer the new-generation Patrol and the range expanding from three to six model grades.

While the Y63 lineup opens with the familiar entry-level Ti grade, priced from $98,990 before on-road costs, it also introduces the first Patrol Pro-4X – but no replacement for the outgoing Patrol Warrior.

Priced from $137,590 before on-road costs, the Pro-4X is an off-road-focused model featuring all-terrain tyres, a unique front bumper and adaptive air suspension.

That makes it $26,930 more expensive than the outgoing Y62 Warrior , priced at $110,660 before on-road costs, with the final Australian example set to be completed in November as production winds up .

However, Nissan says the Pro-4X won't necessarily take the Warrior’s place in the Y63 lineup.

“The Warrior’s been well-received,” a Nissan Australia spokesperson told CarExpert.

“We now have six grades, and we have Pro-4X – we’ve never had a Pro-4X before, but with that being said, we are actively studying the possibility of a future Warrior.”

The Pro-4X grade is also offered on the Navara ute, on which the Warrior name first appeared with the Navara N-Trek Warrior in 2019.

The most recent versions were the D23 Navara SL Warrior and the Navara Pro-4X Warrior , the latter of which sat above the regular Pro-4X. Nissan Australia has confirmed a new Navara Warrior is being developed by Premcar for the latest D27-generation range .

Asked whether there was room in the Y63 lineup for both the Pro-4X – which is considerably more expensive than the outgoing Y62 Warrior – and a new Warrior, Nissan Australia stopped short of confirming the latter.

“I think time will tell. I think let’s get Pro-4X into market and see. There is a lot of technology on that car. The design is different, even from the bumper, the wheels. You know, a lot of the visual differentiation that people are seeking is there," said the spokesperson.

“But again, that wouldn’t be a factor that will preclude us from introducing a potential Warrior. So all I can say is we’re actively studying, and watch this space.”
