John Cena admits London WrestleMania teases was off script but he hopes WWE still listen

John Cena went off script when he called on WWE to bring WrestleMania to London but he's still pushing for it to happen.

The 49-year-old star, who rose to fame as a wrestler before breaking into Hollywood, retired from in-ring action in December 2025 but he still works for the company as an ambassador.

Back in July 2023, he made a surprise appearance at Money In The Bank at London's O2 arena, and publicly suggested WrestleMania could come to the UK's capital.

Appearing on the Off Menu podcast, he was asked if he ran that by any bosses beforehand, and admitted: "That was just me putting it out there.

"Honestly, it's just my perspective. I look around, I see the energy and passion and enthusiasm.

"What a great city for people to come to. WrestleMania is such a travelled-to event. It's one of my favourite cities in the world, I love London.

"So I think it'd be a nice piece of culture for people to explore, and experience WrestleMania, you know, the Super Bowl of sports entertainment.

Cena, who is making waves on the big screen with roles in the likes of Coyote vs. Acme and Matchbox The Movie, is "still an advocate" to get the global event in the UK.

WrestleMania is set to travel to Saudi Arabia in April 2027, and the 17-time world champion has suggested that could be a test to see if other international sites could work in the future.

He said: "I think London has earned the right to have the event. And I am very excited about this year's WrestleMania, because it is the first WrestleMania outside of North America, so it's like proof of concept, that it can be done.

"So, I am still a strong advocate that this crowd, this city, has earned the right to WrestleMania."

Cena insisted he has just a "little stroke" behind the scenes, but he's willing to use what influence he has to make it happen.

He added: "I hope so, I hope so! What little stroke I have, I certainly - I tried to rile up the crowd a few times and say London has earned WrestleMania.

"And it did get people talking. I don't know where those talks are at, but you know, hopefully, maybe I can return to The O2 and stake that claim again, we'll see."
