Limpopo woman arrested for murder of 2-year-old

A 20-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the murder of a two-year-old child at Sekurung village, outside Lebowakgomo, in Limpopo .

Police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba says the suspect allegedly took the child from her home, fatally stabbed her and later set a house alight.

Police say the child’s mother could not be located at the time of the incident.

Following the arrest, members of the community allegedly torched the suspect’s homestead.

Ledwaba says investigations are continuing.

“Following the incident, some of the angry community members allegedly went on a rampage and set the suspect’s house alight.

Police are investigating the matter,” says Ledwaba.

He says the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers, has condemned acts of vigilantism and urged community members to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
