Madlanga Inquiry can’t resume without lead counsel: Matlala’s lawyer

Businessman and attempted murder accused Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala’s lawyer believes it is unfair for proceedings at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria to continue in the absence of his lead counsel.

Advocate Fatima Missi appeared on behalf of Advocate Annelene van der Heever, who is unwell.

Missi requested that Matlala’s testimony stand down until Tuesday to allow the legal team sufficient time to properly consult with him and prepare for the proceedings.

She says, “When we were excused, or stood down rather, we received further instructions from Mr Matala, having heard the engagement that we heard prior to the stand down, and the position that is taken is that he feels that it’s unfair that the commission is putting him in a position where he has to proceed where his lead counsel, one, is not here, obviously not of her own doing.” LIVE STREAM | Madlanga Commission of Inquiry:
