Capricorn TVET employee to appear in court

SABC News ·

A Capricorn TVET employee who was arrested for alleged corruption is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court in Limpopo this Monday.

The 58-year-old suspect allegedly solicited money from a farmer under false pretences.

Police say the suspect pretended to be from the Agriculture Department and that he wanted to award the Senwabarwana farmer a tender worth R750 000 to train 33 students.

He asked for a bribe of R100 000 before the tender could be awarded to the farmer; the money was to be shared between him and his colleague.

The suspect was found in possession of R40 000 in cash, which was allegedly paid by the farmer.

The farmer had apparently tipped the police about the supposed tender.

Police say another suspect is being sought.
