Poll puts Democrats 8 points ahead among registered voters

SABC News ·

US President Donald Trump is campaigning across six states, this week as Republicans fight an uphill battle to retain control of Congress in America’s Midterm elections .

A Reuters-Ipsos poll puts Democrats eight points ahead among registered voters.

This while billionaire, Elon Musk has provided roughly 366 million dollars this election cycle, largely backing Republicans.

Early voting is also under way, with the state of Georgia reporting record opening-day Midterm turnout, less than three weeks before the November 3rd vote.

President Trump said this to Republican voters, “I want you to do me one big favour, pretend that I’m on the ballot, because here’s what happens.

Every time I’ve been on the ballot, we win.

If you elect a Republican House and a Republican Senate, November 3rd, you get $5 000.” A pledge that will require congressional approval before any such payment could be made to every American adult at a cost of 1.7 trillion dollars.

With money likely to influence the outcome of this election including hundreds of millions from Elon Musk as he seeks to boost Republican chances of retaining control of both Congressional chambers.

Open Secrets Research Group’s Brendan Glavin says, “You know, he’s exceeding what last in 2024, he was the top donor of any individual in the election and that was a record at that time.

So, now he’s come back and he’s exceeded that, you know, and there’s still more to go.

So, you could put more money in later this month.

So, that puts him head and shoulders above the next biggest donor, which was him.” SOURED TOWARDS REPUBLICANS With latest polling giving Democrats, a clear edge as the data suggests a majority of voters have soured on the Republicans, with Musk eclipsing other mega-donors in this election cycle as Glavin explains.

“When things aren’t looking great for the Republicans and if he can come in at the, at the last second and spend all this money and then they do well, he’s going to be able to take a lot of credit for that or, you know, legitimately or not, he certainly, you know, he’ll be able to say that, ‘Oh, I came in and helped you guys when things weren’t looking great’, and that’s good for your ego and it’s maybe good for the bottom line.” With early voting already under way in several US states including Georgia.

Democratic US Senator Raphael Warnock says, “I cannot stress too much how important it is for everybody to show up and vote early.
