Arrests and protection orders: Emtee’s father speaks out on viral altercation

Lumikile Ndevu, father of Mthembeni “Emtee” Ndevu, has broken his silence after the rapper’s recent arrest and viral confrontation with his girlfriend, singer Nandi Ndathane Moncho.

Videos that went viral on social media recently show Emtee’s family attempting to take the keys to his Hyundai H-1 from Moncho and her mother, who is wearing the Roll Up hitmaker’s merchandise.

According to Emtee’s father, the conflict began the day after Emtee’s arrest last Tuesday when Moncho and her mother approached his parents at their apartment, asking about plans for his release.

“On Tuesday night, Nandi’s mother and Nandi came to our apartment asking what plans we have as parents about Emtee, and we said we’ve got no plans at this moment.

“I said to them, since we’ve got no plans for him to come out, it’s better for Nandi to bring Emtee’s clothes, ID, cards and all the stuff because they had booked somewhere with Emtee,” Lumkile Ndevu told TshisaLIVE.

“We all agreed that they’ll bring the stuff and the car as well. The following day we went there to collect the stuff, but Nandi did not allow us to come in. She started swearing at us, insulting and threatening us,” Ndevu alleged.

Emtee’s father said they reported the matter to the police and were advised to obtain a letter of demand. The family engaged a tracking company which located the car along Winnie Mandela Drive, which is where they managed to get it back.

“That’s where the fight started. They didn’t want us to take the car. So we took the car and went home.”

Ndevu said his main concern was that their son’s phone, ID document, clothing, driver’s licence and bank cards are still in her possession.

“The rest of the stuff we didn’t get, we only got the car. We saw that video on social media; now she’s telling people that we are bullies, and that we are happy that Emtee is arrested. She is telling lies.”

Since Emtee’s first court appearance in June, Ndevu said he and his wife, Phatiswa Ndevu, had travelled from Matatiele in the Eastern Cape to Waterfall, Midrand, to attend his case.

Since his arrest on August 17 after he violated a 2023 protection order obtained by his estranged wife Nicole Chinsamy, Ndevu said they have been trying to mend their son’s life.

“We were worried. If Emtee has been arrested, who is going to pay the rent? They are going to lock the clothes inside, that’s why we wanted to collect them.”

A protection order application filed by Moncho and seen by TshisaLIVE alleges that she was verbally attacked by Emtee’s father in Rivonia where she cohabits with the rapper.
