Matlala abandons bail application in property fraud case

Alleged criminal kingpin and businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala has abandoned his bail application in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court, Gauteng.

This relates to a fraud case in which the state alleges that Matlala and his co-accused, including his wife Tsakane, falsified documents to secure a lease agreement for a luxury residential property reportedly rented at R 95 000 per month and that nearly R 1.

2 million was allegedly paid upfront.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Gauteng Spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana says, “During his appearance, he abandoned his bail application.

The matter was then postponed to the 29th of October, when he’s going to join his other three co-accused.” Mahanjana says, “When the matter was postponed for further investigations, we intended, as the state, to oppose his bail application; we indicated that in his first appearance.

However, he abandoned his bail application, so now, as the state, we can continue and focus on further investigations.” RELATED VIDEO | Matlala’s court appearance last month: Reporting by Sphiwe Mkhize.
