Mpumalanga government advocates for women empowerment: Premier

The Mpumalanga provincial government says it has 46% women representation in key strategic positions in government.

Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu was speaking at the Mpumalanga Women’s Parliament in Arconhoek.

Women raised concerns that female representation is still behind government’s target.

Premier Ndlovu says the provincial government has resolved to advocate for women empowerment.

He says they also agreed that businesswomen should be getting government tenders across the province.

“Senior positions now have 46% representation of women.

We also took a decision as government, as one of targets that would want to support businesses that are owned by women at the level of 40% but we know that 40% is just a baseline, we want to go to 50% but currently we have not reached that target.

We are at 36%.

Women attending the Provincial Women’s Parliament say they hope that all the issues raised will be implement by the provincial government.

“BBE doesn’t apply to us time and again.

We see the same people getting tenders every day and let alone even catering you must give them something so there’s no fairness.

We are heads of families as we women.

We take care of families, we don’t get tenders, there nothing we can do.

We think that the Parliament will resolve all our matters.
