Over R1m in drugs seized in Ballito, 43-year-old man arrested

SABC News ·

A 43-year-old man is expected to appear in the uMhlali Magistrate’s Court after he was allegedly found in possession of drugs valued at more than R1 million in Ballito, north of Durban.

The suspect, whose nationality and immigration status have yet to be confirmed, was arrested on Sunday night during an intelligence-driven operation conducted by members of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit.

KZN Police spokesperson Paul Magwaza says they recovered drugs estimated to be over R1 million.

“Members held observation posts in Ballito and monitored the area until the targeted person was identified.

A take-down operation was conducted by the team during which the suspect was found in possession of 500g of crystal meth, four kilograms of methcathonone, two kilograms of cocaine powder, 12 packs of small glass bottles as well as nine cellphones.

The street value of the recovered drugs is estimated to be just over R1 million.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and charged for dealing in drugs.”
