IEC doesn’t anticipate change of election date over ConCourt ruling

The Electoral Commission (IEC) says it does not anticipate a change to the November 4th Local Government Election (LGE) date, despite logistical challenges following the Constitutional Court ruling on the ANC’s candidate lists.

The Commission says preparations have been significantly affected by the ruling and its decision to extend the effect of the ruling to 32 other political parties.

Addressing the media in Centurion in Pretoria, the commission says the outstanding processes will be completed within a shortened timeframe and under strict supervision.

This includes the printing of ballots following the ruling.

“At the moment, the commission does not anticipate that these developments will affect the 4 November 2026 election date.

However, it is apparent that our logistical preparations have been significantly affected. the logistical operations, therefore, will now have to be conducted within a very truncated period and under very strict supervision,” IEC chairperson Mosotho Moepya explains.
