Most issues that caused COSATU congress to adjourn resolved: Parks
Labour federation COSATU says most of the issues that led to the adjournment of last month’s national congress have now been resolved.
The federation reconvened its 15th National Congress after the initial gathering was abruptly adjourned due to disputes over leadership eligibility, which resulted in some delegates’ credentials being withheld.
The congress is set to continue until Thursday and is expected to elect a new leadership.
COSATU Parliamentary Coordinator Matthew Parks says, “Credentials have been adopted today.
One or two delegates still need to sign, but it’s basically 99%.
But the credentials have been adopted and then banner papers will be finalised tomorrow and nominations were finalised.
Right now, we’re doing the messages of support from the alliance partners.
We’ll then get into the resolutions from different affiliates about challenges facing workers in the different parts of the economy.
And of course, we’ll get into the secretary’s report about the work done for the last four years as well.” Earlier, ANC National Chairperson Gwede Manatshe, who walked out of the 15th national congress , accused organisers of compromising the standing traditions of the alliance for the sake of convenience.
He said the tradition has been that the ANC speaks last.
