GP govt laments gun violence following Ekurhuleni shootings

The Gauteng Provincial Government says it’s deeply concerned about the continued scourge of gun violence and its devastating impact on families and communities across the province.

This follows three separate shooting incidents in Ekurhuleni on Gauteng’s East Rand, on Tuesday night, that claimed six lives.

In Katlehong, four people believed to be African National Congress (ANC) Youth League members were killed when a gunman allegedly opened fire on them as they returned from a memorial service of an ANC member.

T wo young men were declared dead at the scene following a shooting, while two others succumbed to their injuries in hospital.

Three others remain in hospital.

In Vosloorus, Extension Two, one person was shot dead in Manaka Street, while in Birchacres, in Kempton Park, a 51-year-old man was gunned down inside his car as he arrived home.

WATCH | Gauteng police are investigating multiple shooting incidents in Vosloorus, Tembisa and Katlehong, in Ekurhuleni.

In one of the incidents, a drive-by shooting in Katlehong left two people dead and three others injured.

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi explains. https://t.co/FprFnk1Cst — SABC News (@SABCNews) October 13, 2026 Police suspect the Kempton Park incident might have been a taxi violence-related shooting.

Meanwhile, the ANC Youth League’s Palesa Molefe has called on police to intensify efforts to combat violent crime and the proliferation of illegal firearms.

“The ANCYL in Gauteng will continue to engage with the affected families and relevant structures.

Further updates will be communicated in due course, following consultations with the families.

The blood of our young people cannot continue to flow in our streets.

Their lives matter, their futures matter, and their deaths must not be met with silence.
