ConCourt ruling has invigorated ANC’s campaign: Ramaphosa

ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa says the Constitutional Court (ConCourt) ruling that allows for the inclusion of 181 of the party’s candidates to contest six municipalities in next month’s local government election has kicked electioneering into a higher gear.

Ramaphosa is campaigning for votes in the Cape Town metro this weekend ahead of the 4 November polls.

He went on door-to-door visits in Athlone and ended with an address to party members in Mfuleni.

Earlier this week, the ConCourt ruled in favour of the ANC who had challenged an Electoral Court ruling in favour of the IEC, regarding the excluded candidates.

Ramaphosa says the ruling has invigorated the party’s campaign.

“It has really galvanized the energy of ANC volunteers and leaders and members throughout the country, especially in the Eastern Cape and KZN and in the Free State.

So we feel that our campaign is now reaching a higher level of energy and we are grateful that the decision by the IEC has been overturned and we are now able to get our representatives in all those affected areas to be put on the ballot so that we can have a very free and fair election.” Meanwhile, Ramaphosa will kick off his second day of campaigning in the Cape Town metro, by attending a church service in Khayelitsha on Sunday.
