Pulitzer Prize Finalist ‘Here There Are Blueberries’ Set For Broadway

Pulitzer Prize finalist Here There Are Blueberries is coming to Broadway this fall.

The play, written by Moisés Kaufman and Amanda Gronich, is based on the true story about an album of Nazi-era photographs given to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2007 that show the camp guards frolicking and at leisure. This sets off a debate among the curators about what to do with the photographs.

Here There Are Blueberries will begin previews on Nov. 2 at the Barrymore Theatre in a co-production with La Jolla Playhouse. Opening night is set for Nov. 9. Casting will be announced at a later date. Kaufman also directs the production.

The play had its first workshop production at Miami New Drama and received its world premiere at La Jolla Playhouse in 2022. It premiered Off-Broadway in 2024, as a co-production at New York Theatre Workshop.

Kaufman’s Tectonic Theater Project are producing alongside Brian and Dayna Lee (who produced Giant on Broadway), Bruce Roberts, Sue Vaccaro and Ricky Stevens.

“For Tectonic Theater Project, bringing Here There Are Blueberries to Broadway is the culmination of a remarkable journey. These photographs hold a mirror up to our humanity in the most intimate and unsettling way. We have to look at them—not to understand the people in the pictures, but to better understand ourselves,” said Kaufman, founder and artistic director and Matt Joslyn, executive director.
