‘The Odyssey’ 70mm Imax Run Extended Yet Again

The Odyssey is continuing its historic Imax run, with 70mm screening dates being added yet again.

The Christopher Nolan epic now has additional showtimes for Imax 70mm locations through the end of September.

The film — the first theatrical release to be shot entirely with Imax cameras — is the highest-grossing Imax release of all time, having made $457 million across Imax screens globally. Imax 70mm screenings — Nolan’s preferred format — have earned $66 million worldwide, resulting in a $1.6 million per screen average.

The Odyssey is currently the second-highest grossing movie of the year, behind only Marvel-Sony’s blockbuster Spider-Man: Brand New Day , having made $1.55 billion and counting.

Other records set by the fantastical drama so far: The Odyssey is the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time and Nolan’s top-grossing movie ever. It also marks the highest-grossing movie globally for stars Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson.

The Odyssey adapts Homer’s epic poem in telling the story of Odysseus (Damon) making his way home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. It is expected to be major contender in the Oscars race.
