New York Film Festival Adds North American Premiere of ‘NAZA’ Documentary

The New York Film Festival has added the North American premiere of Israel -Gaza war documentary NAZA to its main slate.

The film, from Oscar-winning No Other Land directors Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor and produced by The Guardian and Oscar-winning Zone of Interest filmmakers James Wilson and Jonathan Glazer, was shot from the rooftops of Tel Aviv and documents Israel’s bombing of Gaza. According to the filmmakers , the movie, “reveals in detail the systems behind Israel’s calculated mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.” Related Stories Movies Everest Drama 'Tenzing' With Tom Hiddleston, Willem Dafoe to Open Zurich Festival Movies Oscars: Belgium Picks Lukas Dhont's 'Coward' as Best Int'l Feature Submission

“NAZA,” the filmmakers add , “is a term that appears throughout the documentary. It is a military acronym euphemistically used by Israeli intelligence to indicate the number of civilians that it expects will be killed in an airstrike.”

The movie, which is getting its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, builds on reporting from The Guardian , Israeli-Palestinian publication +972 magazine and Hebrew-language outlet Local Call .

“ NAZA is an important investigative documentary about one of the gravest catastrophes of our time,” NY Film Festival artistic director Dennis Lim. “The film brings critical information to light and, through its singular cinematic language, prompts broader questions of individual and societal complicity and accountability, especially in a time of intersecting global conflicts and endless wars. Like many films in this year’s NYFF slate, it demonstrates cinema’s enduring ability to reflect and engage with the world around us.”

The 2026 New York Film Festival, running from Sept. 25-Oct. 12, will open with the North American premiere of Paper Tiger and feature the world premieres of Tony Gilroy’s Pedro Pascal-starrer Behemoth! , Ava DuVernay’s 14th and Godzilla Minus Zero.
