PSG star knocked out in worrying scenes during warm up as medics rush on pitch

Matyev Safonov was wiped out in a brutal collision during Paris Saint-Germain's warm-up ahead of their Ligue 1 fixture with Lille on Friday. The goalkeeper was spotted lunging to punch a ball away during drills prior to kick-off, when his head collided with a member of Les Parisiens' first-team coaching staff.

The 27-year-old lay on his back on the pitch, as medical staff rushed over to provide treatment, as players and staff surrounded Safonov anxiously. While Lucas Chevalier began preparing for a last-minute change between the sticks, the PSG No. 2 was ultimately told to stand down, with Safonov allowed to start after brief treatment.

Safonov managed the full 90 minutes as PSG were held to a 2-2 draw at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, in a highly-dramatic encounter. Hakon Haraldsson opened the scoring for the hosts just 21 minutes in, with Lille putting on a defensive masterclass to hold onto their lead for the majority of the duration.

Dilane Bakwa put another sword in PSG's back with less than 10 minutes remaining, with Les Parisiens left with a mountain to climb to take anything from the match at 2-0 down.

Thankfully, Luis Enrique didn't have to make the trip back to the French capital too red-faced, with Vitinha clawing a goal back early into stoppage time, before Marquinhos levelled matters at the death.

It came as a troubling showing for the defending Ligue 1 champions, who have now managed just two points from their first two matches of the season.

The club were also held to a 2-2 draw by Rennes last weekend in their opening match of 2026/27, and sit sixth in the league standings as a result.
