Chelsea reject Liverpool's deadline day offer for Malo Gusto with clear transfer stance

Chelsea star Malo Gusto was reportedly wanted by Liverpool on transfer deadline day, but a deal never seemingly got close to being completed. Gusto’s future has been the subject of speculation throughout the summer transfer window, with fresh reports emerging hours before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline.

Reports in recent weeks have been suggesting that some members of the Chelsea squad could head for the exit door at Stamford Bridge, notably Enzo Fernandez, who is closing in on a £125million switch to Manchester City .

Gusto was reportedly a target for City earlier in the summer, but a deal never happened, and the France international has since remained a Chelsea player.

Fresh reports emerged on deadline day suggesting that Liverpool had registered an interest in signing the France international before the window closes.

Journalist Fabrice Hawkins reports that Liverpool approached Chelsea about a potential deal to sign Gusto on a loan deal.

The report suggests that the Reds were only prepared to take Gusto on a loan basis with no obligation to buy at the end of the campaign, terms which Chelsea were unwilling to accept.

Instead, the Londoners are said to have "pushed" for a permanent exit for Gusto, but Liverpool were not prepared to meet those conditions either, leaving the two clubs unable to reach an agreement.

Gusto was reportedly valued by Chelsea at around £75million earlier in the summer when City were showing an interest in securing the right-back's services, though it remains unclear whether this was the same figure put to Liverpool when they rejected a permanent deal.

New Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso has already made clear just how central Gusto is to his plans, with the 23-year-old featuring from the start in both Premier League wins over Fulham and Brighton across the past fortnight.
