Liverpool get Pro Ref VAR verdict after Florian Wirtz goal ruled out vs Nottingham Forest

Florian Wirtz saw his goal disallowed against Nottingham Forest after VAR intervened. The German playmaker looked to have equalised at Anfield following Dan Ndoye's opening strike, but a review robbed him of an extended celebration.

Jeremie Frimpong was judged to be offside in the build-up to the goal, ensuring Wirtz's goal was chalked off. The Dutch wingback looked to have fended off a number of opposition defenders before finding Wirtz, who completed a smart spin and finish into the bottom corner.

Premier League Match Centre said: "VAR checked the referee’s call of goal – and determined that Frimpong was in an offside position and recommended that the goal was disallowed."

"When the ball came into Jeremie Frimpong, it looked close, he's just slightly offside," Ally McCoist on TNT Sports commentary.

"I knew there wasn't a lot in it but the bottom line was he was in an offside position."

Following the scare, Forest were able to take their lead into halftime after Ndoye's goal. Some weak defending allowed Igor Jesus to hold the ball up from Mat Sels' upfield punt.The forward then found Morgan Gibbs-White, who found Ndoye to produce a confident finish into the bottom corner.
