‘Diddy Kong Racing’ soundtrack getting ‘Revisited’ vinyl release

Diddy Kong Racing composer David Wise has revisited the soundtrack to the 1997 game for a new vinyl release. ‘Diddy Kong Racing Revisited’ features 23 tracks from the original Nintendo 64 game that have been given a “fresh reimaging” by Wise.

“From the high-speed energy of ‘Dino Domain’ and ‘Fossil Canyon’ to the icy atmosphere of ‘Frosty Village’ and ‘Walrus Cove’, Wise revisits the soundtrack with new arrangements, expanded instrumentation, and modern production while keeping the character and spirit of the original compositions intact,” reads a press release.

The LP also features original artwork by Kevin Bayliss, one of the original artists that worked on Diddy Kong Racing .

The ‘Diddy Kong Racing Revisited’ soundtrack is: SIDE A ‘Diddy Kong Racing Theme’ ‘Character Select’ ‘Dino Domain’ ‘Main Menu’ ‘Ancient Lake’ ‘Fossil Canyon’ ‘Jungle Falls’ ‘Hot Top Volcano’ ‘Boss Challenge’ ‘Everfrost Peak’ ‘Walrus Cove’ ‘Frosty Village’ SIDE B ‘Whale Bay’ ‘Pirate Lagoon’ ‘Crescent Island’ ‘Battle Theme’ ‘Boulder Canyon’ ‘Greenwood Village’ ‘Haunted Woods’ ‘Star City’ ‘Spaceport Alpha’ ‘Wizpig Theme’ ‘Dark Moon Caverns’ Speaking to Nintendojo in 2011, Wise said the first few months of work on the Diddy Kong Racing soundtrack were difficult as he struggled to find a style of music that suited.

“We listened to a lot of the Mario Kart music and tried to create a clichéd sound, that was even more Mario Kart than even Mario Kart .

Once we had that sound I think we cracked the nut really.

“Going back to the lava level (‘Hot Top Volcano’) which used Indian voicings and instruments – I got the idea for that from Mario 64 , where the composer used Indian instrumentation in the ‘Lethal Lava Land’ and ‘Desert’ levels in the game, so really it was trying to be more Nintendo than Nintendo, but in a very complementary and respectful way.” The post ‘Diddy Kong Racing’ soundtrack getting ‘Revisited’ vinyl release appeared first on NME .
