Liverpool news: Bradley Barcola saving emerges as Reds 'plot' another transfer hijack

Liverpool are finally set to get their way after agreeing a deal to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain . The Frenchman is set to join for a fee that comes close to rivalling the British transfer record but there's more business to be done.

The summer transfer window has been a slow-burner for Andoni Iraola's side despite a number of problem areas emerging. There's still some concern regarding a lack of defensive depth at Anfield despite the additions of Jeremy Jacquet and Ronald Araujo , while Mohamed Salah still hasn't been truly replaced.

For all that, the majority of transfer rumours around Liverpool are situated largely in attack. Mirror Football brings you all the latest murmurs from around the club with a little more than 48 hours to go before Tuesday's deadline.

As expensive as Barcola's signing may be on paper, fans will be heartened to know his arrival comes at a discount . The total cost of the transfer is reportedly made up of a £106million guaranteed payment, plus another £17m in add-ons.

That's a full £22m cheaper than PSG were originally seeking for their forward earlier this summer. Les Parisiens opened negotiations with a starting price point of £145m but were whittled down thanks in large part to their own business.

Luis Enrique has added new creative weapons to his ranks this summer in the shape of Mika Godts and Maghnes Akliouche. Add to that the fact Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue already appeared ahead of him in the pecking order and it's easier to see why PSG have decided to cash in.

It's still an eye-watering sum for Liverpool to pay in the grand scheme of things. Many would even argue Barcola hasn't done enough in his career as of yet to justify such a massive expense.

However, it won't be long before Reds fans see their shiny, new signing attempting to do just that at Anfield. And it will please those same supporters to know the board is at least doing all it can to save the pennies (read: millions) where they can.

Liverpool could be set to hand Newcastle more misery in the transfer window after already snatching Victor Munoz from their sights. The Reds are now being touted to complete a move for Lille forward Matias Fernandez Pardo, who is reportedly valued at around £60m.

Iraola's side have been linked with the Belgian already this summer , so it's hardly out of the blue, as was the case for Munoz. However, it could throw another late spanner in Newcastle's plans if they were to get beaten to the punch by Liverpool again.

TEAMtalk reported the Reds have already made contact with Lille regarding a late bid for their star. This comes after The Telegraph reported Newcastle were accelerating their own ambitions to recruit the youngster.

Fernandez-Pardo has operated largely as a striker for Lille and would presumably provide back-up behind Alexander Isak. However, he is also capable of working off either flank.

The 21-year-old would present a similar profile to Cody Gakpo and could be viewed as a replacement if the Dutchman leaves.
