Telangana People’s Front (TPF), led by former bureaucrats and civil society leaders, including former Telangana Education Commission chairperson Akunuri Murali, wrote to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday (October 7, 2026) seeking urgent intervention to save the public education system in the State.

It observed that the state of education system in the State was akin to being a patient in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The letter follows TPF’s recently concluded Vidya Bus Yatra, which toured 10 erstwhile districts in the State, where its committee members spoke to parents, students, and various stakeholders in roundtable discussions to understand and note their concerns. Between September 15 and 29, it visited 20 government schools and several private schools, conducted village meetings, and the senior and core committee leaders slept on school premises as part of Badi Nidra.

The three immediate interventions that the TPF has called for are : a legislation to establish an independent Fee Regulatory Commission to control private school fees, prevent arbitrary hikes, and regulate additional charges; comprehensive strengthening of existing government schools under the Telangana Public Schools (TPS) programme, replicating the Arutla Telangana Public School model across all mandals through parents’ committees, and enacting a legislation to institutionalise the programme; and allocating at least 18% of the State’s annual budget to the education sector, excluding expenditure on residential institutions such as Gurukul schools that fall under welfare allocations.

TPF further reminded the Congress government of its 2023 election manifesto, which promised to raise education spending from 6.5% to 15% of the State budget, a promise that remains unfulfilled. Alongside the Young India Integrated Residential Schools, TPF said strengthening existing schools, colleges, and universities must receive equal priority.

“If Telangana is to become a knowledge-based society and a model State for education in the country, the time has come to treat education not as just another government department, but as a sector requiring the highest and most urgent priority,” it said in its appeal to Mr. Reddy.
