A job card mela has been launched across all 255 gram panchayats in Mysuru district to strengthen and expand the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G), aimed at providing employment security to rural households.

Following directions from the Department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, the Mysuru Zilla Panchayat has launched the campaign to create awareness about the benefits of the scheme.

The campaign focuses on strengthening rural livelihoods by prioritising water conservation, groundwater recharge, drought management and sustainable livelihood opportunities, besides promoting infrastructure development.

It also seeks to generate employment opportunities within villages and reduce migration to urban areas.

As part of the campaign, officials will visit households to register employment demands. Rozgar Guarantee Cards will be issued to eligible vulnerable families that have not yet registered under the scheme.

Separate job cards will be issued to persons with disabilities and gender minorities. Job cards will be updated and e-KYC completed at the spot. Officials will also register demand for unskilled work and create awareness about the benefits and provisions of the VB-G RAM G scheme.

“The primary focus of the campaign is to visit every household and ensure that families get up to 125 days of employment through job cards, with wages of ₹382 per day. The job card melas are being conducted across all gram panchayats in Mysuru district with the cooperation of the Central and State governments to ensure employment security for every family,” said S. Yukesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, Mysuru Zilla Panchayat.

Bheemappa K. Lali, Deputy Secretary (Development), Mysuru Zilla Panchayat, said the VB-G RAM G job card melas had commenced in all 255 gram panchayats with the objective of ensuring equal wages for equal work.

The initiative would help strengthen the livelihood security of rural and vulnerable sections, while improving the economic condition of rural people and promoting water conservation, he added.
