Rajam, an industrial town in Vizianagaram district, is preparing for the civic body elections after two decades due to legal dispute over the merger of neighbouring villages with the Rajam Nagar Panchayat.
A few residents of Kottavalasa, Kondapeta and Pungutavalasa had strongly opposed the merger of their villages, leading to legal cases that kept election on hold for nearly two decades.
Rajam TDP MLA Kondru Murali Mohan took the initiative to resolve the issues, following which the residents agreed to withdraw their cases and assured to cooperate with the government for the elections.
The State Election Commission is expected to hold elections in a couple of months.
GMR Group executive Annam Naidu, TDP leaders Guravana Narayana Rao, Pinninti Mohana Rao, Vanga Venkata Rao, Maripi Jagan, Vanga Venkata Rao and others felicitated Mr. Murali Mohan on Thursday for his role in resolving the long-pending issue.
Mr. Murali Mohan said that Rajam town would develop faster once an elected body is there for the Nagar Panchayat.
