In 1972, Lyndon Johnson gave away Texas White House, but his wife continued living there until 2007

Johnson and Lady Bird Johnson donated their Texas ranch house and about 600 acres to the National Park Service in 1972, but retained lifetime rights to use the property.

After Lyndon Johnson died in 1973, Lady Bird continued living at the ranch until her death in 2007.

The property, known as the “Texas White House”, was then prepared for public tours.
