Sonal Dinusha's 85, support from tail leave Sri Lanka 38 runs away from follow-on

Dinusha found an able ally in fellow youngster Pasindu Sooriyabandara, who struck 80 (133b, 9x4) in only his second Test innings, as Sri Lanka frustrated India for large parts of the day before ending on 265 for eight.

The hosts still require 38 runs to avoid the follow-on after India posted 503 for nine declared.
