A police inspector in Singampunari who allegedly demanded money from a native doctor, and a constable who allegedly received money from him, have been suspended from service.

Nedunchezhiyan, 45, a resident of Aathikadu near Nerkuppai in Sivaganga district, was treating bone fractures, arthritis and nerve weakness in Singampunari under the name “Puthurkattu Pandi”.

In January, acting on a complaint by the Joint Director of Medical Health Services alleging that he lacked proper educational credentials, the Singampunari police arrested Nedunchezhiyan and sealed the hospital.

Later, after coming out on bail, he built a temple in his grove under the name Sembhuvel Murugan and started giving treatment there.

In this situation, Nedunchezhiyan released a video on social media. In it, he stated: “The current Singampunari Police Inspector, Seenibabu, is harassing me by demanding money every month. If I do not pay, he threatens to register false cases. Because of this, I am not able to provide treatment.”

Further, mentioning the name of an official who had previously worked at the Singampunari police station, he also released CCTV footage purportedly showing constable Jayaraj taking money from him four months ago.

Sivaganga district police authorities conducted an inquiry into the allegations.

Finding them to be true, Sivaganga District Superintendent of Police Abishek Gupta ordered the suspension of Police Inspector Seeni Babu and Constable Jayaraj.
