Govt. revisiting guarantee schemes to ensure the deserving get benefits, says CM

“The State government is revisiting some guarantee schemes to see that they reach the deserving beneficiaries,’’ Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said in Gadag on Tuesday.

“I have given instructions to senior officers to revise the list of beneficiaries of various schemes like Gruha Lakshmi and Gruha Jyoti. This is to make sure that there are no leakages and no misuse of public funds. We want to make sure that only the deserving get the benefits,’’ he said.

He said he would appeal to all deserving beneficiaries to enrol their names on the guarantee schemes with proper documents. “Beneficiaries must give their phone numbers as they are linked to their bank accounts. If they give the phone numbers of third parties, then there will be no fund transfer, and therefore, it will not be considered,’’ he said.

He said that the State government would issue guidelines to form a guarantee implementation committee at the gram panchayat level. “The MLAs should constitute them. If they do not do it within the scheduled time, then we will do it,’’ he said. He clarified that the registration of the Bharat Jodo Yuva Sangh units would be done online.

He asked all government officers to reside in their headquarter towns and be accessible to the common people. All district-level officers should stay in the district headquarters, taluk-level officers should be in taluk headquarters, and village-level officers in villages, he said. They should ensure that all problems that can be resolved at their level are resolved at that level, he added.

“We have started the Praja Seva Department to supervise the process of public grievance redressal across the State. It will be launched on September 5. As per the plan, district-in-charge Ministers must hold public grievance meetings twice a month, and people should submit their grievances to the office of the Deputy Commissioner and the Tehsildar well in advance. As far as possible, all the problems should be resolved on the spot. Similar meetings must be held by the MLAs four times a month. If MLAs are not able to do it, officials concerned should go to the people,” the Chief Minister said.

“We have launched a special program to provide housing sites to the homeless. All those who do not have sites can apply with the appropriate documents. Those who have sites should not apply,’’ he said.
