Sivaganga police have arrested a father and son for hacking to death a youth near Manamadurai who created a ruckus after being refused a woman for marriage.

Police said, Shivabalan, 30, a resident of Chinnapudukottai near Manamadurai in Sivaganga district was studying law in Puducherry for two years but did not continue his studies further.

He had proposed to his relative Murugesan, 50, that he wished to marry his daughter.

However, they did not accept this. Consequently, on Sunday, he picked a quarrel with Murugesan and his son Arunraj, 19, demanding to marry the woman.

As they did not accept his proposal, in a fit of rage, Shivabalan hacked Murugesan and Arunraj with a sickle.

Following this, Murugesan and Arunraj together hacked Shivabalan to death.

Manamadurai police arrested the injured Murugesan and Arunraj and admitted them to the Sivaganga Government Hospital for treatment.
