Karnataka SIR: Draft electoral rolls to be published on August 24, over 1.07 crore voters set to be excluded

The office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka, will publish the draft electoral rolls on August 24. The list, following the enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), will see the removal of 19.48% of voters, or more than 1.07 crore voters, who have been categorised as Absent, Shifted, Duplicate, Dead and Others (ASDDO).

Bengaluru, which has an electorate of over 1.03 crore voters, will see its rolls shrink to just 56.11 lakh voters in the draft electoral rolls.

The final electoral roll is slated to be published on October 27. The notice phase and disposal of claims and objections will take place between August 24 and October 22.

The CEO’s office has identified more than 20.35 lakh voters with logical discrepancies, while another 23.45 lakh voters have not been able to map themselves with the 2002 electoral roll details. Such voters will receive notices during this period and hearings will be conducted.

Meanwhile, those who have objections regarding changes, spelling errors in names or addresses, or wish to make claims or objections using any of the prescribed forms — form 6 (for inclusion), form 6A (for overseas voters), form 7 (seeking deletion), and form 8 (for changes in name, address and other EPIC particulars) — can file their claims and objections until September 23.
