The Electricity department will organise a camp to promote solar energy under the Central government’s Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana at Kamarajar Manimandam, Karuvadikuppam on Saturday.

The department in a release said the camp was organised to create awareness among the public regarding benefits of installing rooftop solar power systems in residential buildings, subsidy assistance provided by the Centre and the Puducherry government, application procedures and availability of bank loans, the release said.

Interested persons could avail a subsidy of ₹40,000 (₹30,000 from Centre and ₹10,000 from Puducherry government) for installation of 1 kW rooftop solar system. Similarly for installing 2 kW rooftop solar panel, consumers could avail subsidy of ₹80,000 (₹60,000 from Centre, ₹20,000 from Puducherry government) and upto ₹1.08 lakh (₹78,000 from Centre and ₹30,000 from Puducherry government) for installing a 3 kW and above rooftop solar panel, the release said.
