Animal Husbandry Joint Director Umamaheswari on Friday (October 9, 2026) announced that Chittoor district is free from bird flu and assured people that there is no need to panic.

In a statement, the official said that preventive measures were taken to check the spread of the virus, and employees at check posts have been alerted about poultry transportation from other districts and States. Poultry farmers were advised to remain vigilant and strictly follow biosecurity precautions.

“People should not believe rumours over consumption of eggs and chicken meat,” she said and added that chicken and eggs can be consumed as usual after thorough cooking with due precautions.

The public should immediately inform local veterinary officers if they notice abnormal changes or deaths in poultry in their surroundings, without any negligence, to enable swift containment measures. People may contact local veterinarians for information on prevention and control measures, the statement said.
