Two persons were killed in a double murder at Erragattu Thanda in Mellacheruvu mandal of Suryapet district on Saturday, with police attributing the incident to a long-standing dispute and personal animosity between neighbours.

Suryapet district SP Narasimha, along with DSP Srinivas Reddy and other police personnel, inspected the scene and spoke to the victims’ family members. He said the police would conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that strong evidence was placed before the court for swift and severe punishment of those responsible.

According to the SP, Bhukya Pedababu, Bhukya Ramu and their mother, who were neighbours of the victims, allegedly attacked Amaraboyina Venkateswarlu and his father. Both victims sustained critical injuries and died at the spot. The incident reportedly followed a dispute involving a tree.

A case has been registered against Pedababu, Ramu and their mother based on eyewitness accounts and preliminary evidence. Ramakrishnareddy, In-charge CI of Kodad Rural, has been appointed as the investigating officer.

The SP said Pedababu had previously worked as a physics teacher but was suspended over alleged behavioural issues and violations of rules. There had also been previous complaints accusing him of frequently instigating disputes and filing petitions that caused unrest in the village, he said.

The bodies were examined at the Government Hospital in Huzurnagar. Police urged residents to maintain peace and not take the law into their own hands.
