Popular film shooting spots to be developed in T.N.: Tourism Minister

Tourism Minister S. Rajesh Kumar on Wednesday announced that the department was looking to develop popular film shooting spots on Public-Private-partnership Mode.

Since many tourists have shown interest in visiting such spots and re-live the scenes, the project aims to provide facilities such as experience centres, signages, parking spots, and refreshment areas. The details of the spots would be made available to the public on QR codes.

Speaking during the demands for the Tourism Department in the State Assembly, the Minister said that the department will take up development works at a cost of ₹48 crore at sites including Pechiparai dam in Kanniyakumari district, Thirumurthi dam in Tiruppur district, K.R.P. dam in Krishnagiri district, and Kodiveri dam in Erode district. The developmental works aim to provide facilities including landscaping, play areas, seating arrangements, drinking water, and toilets to tourists.

The department, he said, was likely to test waters with cruise and ferry tourism. Cruises and ferries are becoming popular worldwide and with an aim to provide such experiences to tourists in the State, an amount of ₹2 crore has been set aside to prepare feasibility reports. Coastal routes such as Chennai – Kovalam, Poompuhar – Tranquebar - Nagapattinam, and Rameshwaram – Thoothukudi – Kanniyakumari are to be part of the study.

The possibility of providing rope car facilities to tourists in Ooty and Kodaikanal was also being studied. Artificial Intelligence-based CCTV cameras would be installed at important tourist locations at a cost of ₹2 crore, he added.
