Krishi Vigyan Kendras transferring new agri-tech to farmers, says ICAR official

RASS-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (RASS-KVKs) are playing a prominent role in transferring new agricultural technologies to farmers, said Dr. Rajbir Singh, Deputy Director General (DDG)-Agricultural Extension, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, at the farmer-scientist interaction programme in Karakambadi, Tirupati, on Sunday (August 23, 2026).

Several guests including ICAR-ATARI Zone 10 Hyderabad Director Dr. Shaik N. Meera, KVK chairman and RASS general secretary Dr. S. Venkataratnam, Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University Director of Research Dr. V. Sumathi, scientists and KVK staff, along with 30 farmers participated in the programme. They paid tributes to Kisan leader Acharya N.G. Ranga.

Speaking at the programme, Dr. Rajbir Singh explained various skill training programmes conducted by the ICAR to encourage youth in agriculture and allied sectors, while interacting with progressive farmers to learn about their experiences. He noted that adopting farming practices guided by KVK scientists helps lower production cost while boosting net returns.

Dr. Venkataratnam detailed the welfare schemes and programmes being extended to various sections of society across several States by the RASS, while Dr. Meera explained the progress and significance of KVKs across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Puducherry. Later, officials and scientists advised farmers on precautionary measures under current El Niño conditions.
